Most candles commonly purchased are made of low grade paraffin (a petroleum by-product). They contain impurities which are emitted into the air as the candle burns. These low quality candles also tend to use wicks which are made with a metal core like zinc or possibly lead. This is not good for the environment or your personal health. Why then you ask are they found in so many households; because they appear to be inexpensive.

Exposure to the lead emitted by some of those other candles can pose a threat to those with a weakened immune system, including the elderly and children.
